About the Book

From the author of “Revelation Special Ops” comes a terrifying, hauntingly real and daringly hopeful tale of betrayal and love.

Leonard, a computer programmer, has a unique gift: by words alone he can calm violent situations. Which is helpful with all these kids running around the streets behaving like zombies. He has his own set of sorrows to face, but he’s prepared for anything. Anything except Tamar, and the thunderous inkling that she will be his wife. This doesn’t make any sense to Leonard. She stole his wallet. And his heart.

Painful circumstances ripped family and stability from Tamar’s grasp, but with gutsy tenacity she faces life head on. Meeting the gorgeous and single Leonard changes everything. But surely a guy like him would never fall for a girl of the streets like her.

She had studied the plight of and worked toward the abolition of modern slavery for over a decade before sitting down to write Revelation Special Ops. She was further inspired by the work of her sister-in-law, who helped to found Love146, an organization that works to raise awareness about human trafficking and builds safe homes in vulnerable regions. Yates spent several years overseas as a missionary in Ireland, and also did missions work in India and the Philippines. Her passion for literature has become her means of further educating young adults of the realities of modern slavery, while producing hope through the power of Christ Jesus in us.

About the Book

Princess doesn’t remember who she was or how she got to Lord Darnel’s palace, but she knows deep down inside that she’s not his daughter, and she’ll give anything to get away from him and his dark schemes. But that would mean leaving the one person she cared for. She will also have to face the dragon. But the promise of what lies beyond along the White Road may be worth all that.

Review

It’s been a long time since I read a book that fit me so perfectly. I loved so many aspects of this book it’s hard to list them all without giving the story away. You should experience it for yourself. The author, Jackie Castle, never hesitated to show beauty in the midst of action, and fun, whimsical moments in the midst of fervent flight and race down the White Road. I never found it to be quirky but brilliantly paced with gentle humor to diffuse the intensity of the battle scenes.

I would compare this book to The Pilgrim’s Progress, as well as to some of George MacDonald’s books and Tolkien’s The Hobbit. At the same time this fantasy had a modern feel, and I would HIGHLY recommend it to readers who are tween or older.

One last thing I want to share is that I didn’t breeze through this story. I savored, highlighted, laughed, cried and basked in the warmth of a resplendent story that reminded me so much of the greatest story. I eagerly await the next installment of these Chronicles!

New YA Bible Study Plan Available

New YA Bible Study Plan Available

Now there’s a Bible lesson plan for Just Like Jonah Wail Tales, a short story collection teaching there’s a price to pay when you disobey to 10- to 14-year-olds. Just Like Jonah Wail Tales Workbook is aimed at parents, Sunday school teachers, youth group leaders and all those who want to share their faith with young people.

Wail tales are exaggerated tales of woe, or fish tales, where the main characters land in a whale of trouble, just like Jonah in the Bible. They turn to God and learn he hears their call when they fall.

“This workbook edition will provide relevant Scriptures and discussion questions to help parents and teachers hone in on the different ways the main characters disobey,” says author Cheryl Rogers, who publishes New Christian Books Online Magazine. “It’s also good for individual Bible study.”

Just Like Jonah Wail Tales Workbook contains eight short stories, with modern Jonahs who mess up in assorted ways. One is prideful and needs to learn about serving, another is fearful, another skips her math homework when it’s too hard, another is selfish, and another hosts an underage drinking party when his parents aren’t home. The ebook teaches the biblical path of salvation through the example of these characters who call upon the name of the Lord.

“It is my goal to teach these youngsters early through the mistakes of these fictitious characters, so they hopefully can avoid living through wail tales of their own,” Rogers says.

A former newspaper reporter, Rogers came to know the Lord as an adult through a serious illness. “There is so much I didn’t know,” she says, “although I went to church regularly.”

So Rogers has dedicated herself to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through her writing, which includes fiction and nonfiction for all ages.

Her original Just Like Jonah Wail Tales is a short story collection without the discussion questions and Scripture citations, which can be read individually or used by students in group Bible studies.

Her free ebook The Lesson of Jonah: There is a Price to Pay When You Disobey includes one story with discussion questions, plus Scripture cites and optional homework.

Also for the 10- to 14-year-old market, Rogers has written a mystery/adventure about a group of 10- to 16-year-old boys who head to the Florida backwoods for a back-to-nature retreat. Lost in the Woods: A Bible Camp Mystery is the first in her new series about the youth group from a Central Florida community church.

When Bible Den’s Leader Chet Harrigan takes his group to the backwoods they are expecting adventure, but they get more of it than they planned. The bumbling adventures of this relatively inexperienced group of campers keep readers guessing. Thirteen-year-old Zack disappears in the middle of the night, more than half of the campers become ill, and a hurricane takes an unexpected turn in their direction. The boys must find Zack, and fast!

The wail tale collection, and Lost in the Woods: A Bible Camp Mystery, are available in multiple ebook formats from the New Christian Books Online Store (http://www.songsfromtheword.com/NewChristianBooks/store) and other e-retail outlets. The Cure for Unhappiness, Depression and Worry

The Cure for Unhappiness, Depression and Worry

by Lara Velez

252146_4662645516972_149403328_n

Lately, God has been nagging me with the same Scripture over and over and over again.

If I stress out, He reminds me of it.

If I start worrying about anything, He reminds me of it.

If I wallow in self pity, He reminds me of it.

If I begin to feel sad, angry or any emotion that is not happy, peaceful and content–He reminds me of it.

I am now convinced that it really is a message from the Lord that is quite powerful for all of His children. I believe it is the CURE for unhappiness, depression, worry…and many mentally developed issues we have.

Before I go further: I am not telling you to go against a doctor’s advice, stop taking medication, or anything like that…That is between you, your doctor and God. I AM saying that I am convinced that if we would take God at His Word; we may find ourselves on less pills, paying less psychiatric bills, and feeling less crappy.

What is this so-called “cure”, you ask??

Well, it is in God’s Word:

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me. Then the God of peace will be with you. – Philippians 4:6-9 (NLT)

I am certain most of you have heard this Scripture MANY times in your Christian life. I know I have. However, it was only recently that it has come alive for me. Have I mastered it? No. BUT… I am in training and God is faithful in His reminding me of the cure for my emotional issues.

You see, most of our “issues” stem from our emotions. If we could step back and see ourselves the way God does, we would be amazed. If we would just believe and DO what God’s Word says, we would BE happier, joy-filled and worry free!

The question of the hour is: How do I apply it??

First, we must recognize WHERE it all begins–the mind.

Then, we can take steps to gain control over our minds and emotions.

3 Steps for Implementing the Cure:

1. Be careful what you are thinking about. Hold EVERY thought captive under the authority of Jesus Christ. Make Philippians 4:6-9 your life verse. Take charge of your thoughts! These Scriptures are very clear. Pray about EVERYTHING, thank God for all He has done and will do. Think on GOOD things. Think about what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise–and then KEEP ON doing it! (ref. Colossians 3:2, Romans 12:2)

2. Pay attention to what/who you are listening to. What we hear is extremely significant. The Word tells us that faith comes by HEARING. The opposite is true as well. Nothing is “just a____”. It is not just a song, just a movie, etc. What we hear DOES matter and DOES affect us. God’s Word says so. That’s all the proof I need. (ref. Romans 10:17, James 1:22) – read the link above too, for further study on the topic of “faith comes by hearing”.

3. Watch what you say. Life and death are at the tip of our tongues. Letting our tongues run amok will destroy anything we are trying to do as a wife, Mother, and Christian woman. It is very important that we are very careful, and choose our words with wisdom. Start thinking BEFORE you speak. REPLACE bad thoughts with what is good, worthy of praise and honorable. After thinking/speaking Life for a while, you will not only begin to believe the Truth, you will KNOW the Truth, and the Truth WILL set you free! (ref. Proverbs 18:21, James 3:3-8, Proverbs 29:11, Philippians 4:8)

The bottom line is to get more of God’s Word in you and less of the world’s influence.

Replace negative thinking with Truth. Pray, pray, pray–repeat.

And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. – Colossians 3:2 (amp)

For further study: read; Deuteronomy 30:19, Ecclesiastes 7:5 and Jeremiah 5:21. You could also look up words like; mind, renewing, faith, trust, peace, thoughts, tongue, hearing, etc.)
